What is forging machining
Forging machining is a machining method that uses forging machinery to apply pressure to metal blanks to cause plastic deformation to obtain forgings with certain mechanical properties, certain shapes and sizes. It is one of the two major components of forging (forging and stamping). Forging can eliminate defects such as as-cast porosity produced in the metal smelting process and optimize the microstructure. At the same time, due to the preservation of complete metal flow lines, the mechanical properties of forgings are generally better than castings of the same material. For important parts with high loads and severe working conditions in related machinery, forgings are mostly used, except for plates, profiles or weldments that can be rolled with simpler shapes.
Forging machining classification
According to the forging temperature, it can be divided into hot forging, warm forging and cold forging. Warm forging and cold forging are mainly used for forging parts such as automobiles and general machinery. Warm forging and cold forging can effectively save materials.
According to the forming mechanism, forging can be divided into free forging, die forging, ring rolling and special forging.
According to the movement mode of the forging die, forging can be divided into pendulum rolling, pendulum swivel forging, roll forging, cross wedge rolling, ring rolling and cross rolling. Rotary forging, rotary forging and ring rolling can also be machined by precision forging.
There are also vertical and horizontal movement of the slider (for forging of slender parts, lubrication and cooling, and forging of parts for high-speed production).
In recent years, the proportion of precision forging machining in our factory has been continuously increasing year by year. Previously, the main reason we adopted forging was to save material costs and reduce machining costs. However, in recent years, we have largely adopted forging and machining due to the promotion of casting to forging. For some high-quality components, such as components that need to withstand high loads, customers often require us to conduct X-ray testing or magnetic particle testing. However, sometimes casting defects are difficult to overcome, and casting components may not pass such non-destructive testing. Therefore, components that were originally made by casting have started to be replaced by forging processes.
After years of practice, our factory can produce all kinds of forged precision machining parts, including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum and copper materials. Small aluminum forgings weighing a few grams to large steel forgings weighing over a ton.
Combined with our company’s advanced precision machining and precision testing capabilities, we have the ability and confidence to provide our customers with high-quality forging and precision machining services, and provide complete parts. We mainly do:
- Precision forging of hard alloys such as stainless steel and alloy steel
- Aluminum alloy hot forging, cold forging, warm forging
- Copper alloy forging
The benefits of forging precision machining
Compared to other manufacturing methods, forging can produce some sturdy and precision-machining components. When metal is heated and pressed, small cracks are sealed and voids in the metal are closed.
During the hot forging process, impurities in the metal are broken down and redistributed within the metal. This reduces inclusions in the forged product.
Another way in which forging strengthens the metal is by changing its grain structure. This involves grain flow during material deformation. Compared to casting, forging forms a better grain structure, making the metal more sturdy.
After forging, the rough casting is combined with CNC precision machining processes to produce components with precise dimensions and excellent mechanical properties, suitable for production of components that are crucial to the design of the product.

Materials suitable for forging machining
Forging is theoretically suitable for any kind of metal machining, but some metals may be more suitable for other machining methods, such as zinc alloy, which is more suitable for die casting.
The most common metal forging materials are:
- Aluminum, aluminum forgings are very suitable for making parts of automobiles and motorcycles
- Carbon steel alloy steel
- Stainless steel
- Special hardness tool steel
- Brass and copper
- Superalloys containing cobalt, nickel or molybdenum
Why choose CYCOSPRAY Forging Machining Service
More and more industries are requiring the use of forgings. The structural stress and unexpected impacts require materials to be sturdy and reliable, and carefully designed forging processes enable metals to meet these requirements. Forged materials do not have voids or internal gas bubbles, which would not weaken the component, machine, or vehicle. The correct forging metal can create safe and reliable parts or structures, which are impossible to achieve with other metal machining techniques.
Over the past 20 years, we have been producing various precision forging and machining components for leading industrial enterprises in the industry, becoming a leading supplier of high-quality custom forgings and machining for various metal products in the global market. This rich forging experience, combined with a team of professional engineers and quality personnel who solve problems, enables us to produce high-quality forgings for our customers.
