Plastic Parts Machining

Precision Plastic Machining and Manufacturing

CNC machining is a popular method for creating plastic parts, with the technology of plastic machining, we can make precise models and units quickly with incredibly tight tolerances. Also we can offer perfect solution for the production requirements of small quantities. With over 20 years of manufacturing, CYCOSPRAY’s strength constantly grow through creative innovation and better technologies.

Plastic Parts

Materials we use

We are able to make many different types of plastic units by using different CNC machining methods, and we can manufacture high quality plastic parts from around 24 different materials. Our technical knowledge allow us to design and produce your CNC plastic units according to your real needs.

We have the ability to make high performance plastic parts of various materials with the support of our advanced CNC machining methods, including milling, turning, drilling, etc.
The following are some of the materials we use:

Design the color according to our clients’ requirements (Pantone colors available )

Why CNC plastic machining?

High precision: CNC plastic machining produces units with tight tolerance, which means it can create parts with high accuracy. With no defects of the final products, they can be used directly in application.

Easy to process: Although the shape is difficult to process, it can be made as long as it can be demolded. Even the process allows designers to create the parts without a mold, cause it is controlled by a computer.

Low cost: CNC machining needs less workers to operate, which can save labor costs greatly and enhance labor safety. Moreover, the design can be modified during the production, cause they are easy to process.

Extensive application: Due to the plastic units’ excellent properties such as high strength, lightweight, favorable heat preservation performance, chemical and wear resistance and more.

Merit our parts have

1. Appearance: smooth surface, exquisite workmanship and perfect shape
2. Resistance: waterproof, anti-UV, anti-corrosive, anti-static and flame retardant
3. Endurance: impact-resistance, anti-pollution, anti-aging, no peeling
(All above depends on your requirements
4. Eco-friendly: advanced materials, clearer production technology
5. Easy to install, easy to operate

Methods of CNC plastic machining

Turning is the process of using a lathe, which is a machine that rotates a plastic piece and allows for stationary tooling to shape the work-piece. There are several types of turning, including:

For large cuts, straight or cylindrical CNC turning is suitable.

For creating parts with cone-like shapes, taper CNC turning is suitable.

Guidelines for turning:

Minimize rubbing through generous relief and negative back rake.

Polish the surface of work piece for a better surface finish and reduced material buildup.

Tailor the clearance, side, and rake angles to the plastic material.

Milling uses a cylindrical rotating tool, called a milling cutter, to remove material from a solid work piece and reveal a finished part. CNC milling machine can be divided into two categories–3-axis mills and multi-axis mills. 3-axis mills are best for creating simpler designs. Multi-axis mills, including milling machines with four axes or more, are well suited for creating plastic parts with complicated geometries.

Guidelines for milling:

Increase the spindle speed by using fixtures.

Machine a thermoplastic reinforced with carbon or glass with carbon tooling.

Cooling directly on the router to disperse heat.

CNC drilling involves using a drill bit to drill holes into a plastic block. The drill bit’s size and shape determine the hole’s size. There are multiple kinds of drill presses you can use, including bench, upright, and radial. Furthermore, it also plays a role in chip evacuation.

Guidelines for drilling:

Ensure you use sharp CNC drill bits to avoid putting stress on the plastic workpiece.

Use a cooling system to alleviate more generated during the machining process.

Guarantee an easy chip ejection by choosing the right drill bit.

Rubber and plastic are usually used for injection molded products, there are two ways to apply in injection molding, compression molding and die casting.

The material passes through machine barrel and screw, plasticizing by heat and being pushed forward by screw simultaneously, then through the heads into a variety of cross-section products or semi-products.

The method is to add a certain amount of plastic material (liquid or powder) into the mold. After the mold is closed, rotate it through the vertical rotation axis while heating it. The row materials in the mold are evenly distributed on the surface, and the required products can be obtained after cooling and demolding.

After the flat plastic sheet is softened by heat, adsorb it on the surface of the mold by vacuum, then it can be molded after cooling.

We offer all the machining methods you want, we can also help with the design according to your needs and send the samples to you for testing. You can share your ideas and send the drawings or samples to us without any hesitation. Let’s turn your concept into a reality!

CNC plastic machining FAQs

What areas can CNC plastic machining be used?

It can be used in many fields like medical industry, automotive components, aerospace parts, electronic industry and more.

Below is a few consideration that can help you decide if plastic CNC machining is the better process for your project:

  1. Design with tight tolerance
  2. Require quality surface finish
  3. Requirespecial materials
  4. In testing stage
  5. An economical option

The spindle speed and cutter are different. For instance, some plastic melts when it gets hotter, not like the metal, and it will get tangled on the surface of cutter. Plastic parts need to be cooled in time.
